There must be new challenges in Dealing with new students who “pay more” whose ” intelligent less” to my University. It is not easy to find “humble look” students with brilliant brain. The fantastic thing is : Now my campus parking area is like new car show room. What is going on with my University?

Finally, the semester break ends up! new semester, new academic year is started. Tomorrow is my first day dealing back with my student for delivering my lecture in the class. It is just like last year, I will be dealing with new students. It must be “Very Interesting and Challenging” dealing with something new i.e new people. I believe, every body is unique. Therefore, new students must be “entertained” differently. Actually, it is not easy dealing with new students. You know, they just graduated from high school, and now they must adapt with new learning style in University i.e learning style for adult learner that is quite different with teenage learner style in high school. However, It is challenging for me to accelerate them to cope with new culture in University.

“Semester Break = Blogging Break”

Oh my God, I just realized: It has been very long-long time, there is no “Top Up” for my blog. Would’nt I be blogger anymore? Oh no, hopefully. “NO, Man!”. Blogging is a part of my life.Actually, last two months are my semester break. However, it means blogging break for me, haha :D. The time in which I do hope, I will be more productive blogger, actually make me be not productive blogger. I just realize that new semester will be started by tomorrow.

There is no reason to say that I have no idea to “top up” my Blog. Actually, there are many things left in my head that should I write in my blog. Actually, they are must be tranfered in my blog, since it is my personal knowledge management system.I should swear to my self, I will transfer them in this blog, even I don’t know when.

“was I too Busy?”I think “No”. But, the thing is I am not extraordinary man. Although, I have two months for semester break, If I am not mistaken, I have no time for spending for enjoying holidays.

Bellows are reasons, why I am not productive blogger anymore:

1. I am trapped with commercial blogging, to earn money with google adsense. (Someday, I will share my experience dealing with google adsense. Nice and fruitful experience are guaranteed :D)

2. I am People in Charge for: Decision Support System & Business Intelligence Labs, Research and Community Service in my Department.

3. This year, I am chairman for National Information Sysmposium that will be held on December 4th 2010 at my department.

Fortunately, This semester I will teach the same course for last year: Discrete Math. So, I just Improve what I have done last year. Since, last year

is my first chance to delive discrete math course.I do hope, this semester I will be succesfully deliver my lecture, for my National Information Sysmposium as well.

Alhamdulilah finally, this semester ends up! There are many things are interested to be noted and should be fruitful learning for future step.

This semester I firstly  deliver course Introduction to Information System. It covers 4 credit hours, for three big  classes (60 students each). Since, it my first time, it is little bit difficult for me. However I still used my “freak” way, delivering this course in English.

Actually, I do hope I can enjoy my long holidays. Unfortunately, it is long holidays for my students, but not for lecturers, I do not have holidays aat all. As lecturer, many things must be done after semester ending. Research:  I have two research projects and I am people in charge to encourage and coordinate research activities in my department, Industrial Project: I am still bonded with IT Master Plan Project. National Seminar : I am number 1 people in charge for this seminar in the beginning of December. Lab Activity: I still have many final year project (FYP) students conducted in my Decision Support System and Business Intelligence Lab and absolutely I should advice and coordinate them.  However, in my own way I can skip all theses stucked jobs  to enjoy my holidays, hahagh!…

Being University student is not the same as college or professional academy. One thing is they should able to write their idea, their thingkings in scientific writing. That is what it is called analytical and critical thinking. As University student they are expected to sensitive, critical, and responsive with their environment. That’s why some days ago In my Introduction to Information System course, I conduct “Student Paper Contest (SPC)”.  Each student is required to write a paper ( sholud aligned with IEEE format)  in the topics: Emerging Technology and Emerging Issues in Information System.

I very sure in each lecture, there must be student assignment. But, in this lecture I try something different, I try contest instead assignment. Just like another contest there must be winners. So, I sure it will motivate more  the students.  They will try their very best compete with others to be the best one. Absolutely, the winner, the best one, will get certificate, and prizes. In this Student paper contest they are not only required to write, but also required to deliver oral presentation. Only the best ten students of more than 300 students will be given great opportunity to deliver oral presentation.

I am happy with this SPC, since I knew my student showed their ability in scientific writing, analytical and critical thinking, although they are still in first year in this University.  In my humble opinion, it is effective way, to boast their writing, analytical, and critical thinking. The most important thing is to nurture academic habit such as citation, no-plagiarism culture, and how to write effectively.

Creative thinking? it should be posed by each student. However, it is not easy to make student to be creative. Several days ago, I try to trigger my first year student to nurture their creative thinking in Poster Exhibition. In this poster exhibition they are in group are required to exhibit their group project in developing Information System for Rural Development and Small and Medium Enterprise.

Her sweet smile. Her soft words, and her everything on how she behaves, make me believe that She is the most beautiful gift I have ever in my life.

I marry her On Tuesday, May 17 2010. It is not just in  time decision, but after very long wondering. wondering whether she is the right one for my wife. Many times, I doubt about her. Many times, I afraid I will make a big mistake in my life.

Now, she is my wife. She is in my side. I feel I am the most lucky guy in this world to get her. Her everything makes me happy in her side. The only word, I can say is:  She is the most beautiful gift I have ever in my life. I know, she is not an angel. She is not the perfect one. But, from her eyes, from how they behave, she can not lie that She loves me perfectly.

Oh, thank you Allah for my wife. Thank you for making my days very happy with her in my side. Keep it until the end of my days. In each single time, I always pray : Oh, God keep on making my wife and my daughters and sons later, to be my everlasting sweetheart, and make us, the leaders of muttaqin (those who fully worship to you). Make us keep on hold tight when life ups and downs, when there is cry and lough. Guide me to be good husband and honey for my wife.

Thank you my wife! Thank you Allah for my wife. I Love you!

“Innalillahi wainna ilaihi rojiun”. Everything comes from Allah and will back to Allah. Each single thing that is alive will die.

There is happiness and Sadness in Life. There is lough and Tears in Life. There is birth and  death in Life. That’s Life. That’s the secret of Life. Everything happens mysteriously. Even, we do not know what will be happened by tomorrow, we do not know whether we will be happy or sad. Life is really unpredictable and uncontrollable. Because we are controlled by the highest -level controller, that is Allah.

Today, May 12 2010, in the end of the day.  When the twilight fades and night is emerging. I am truly saddened by H Iskandar Death. I still heard his voices yesterday, but today He passed way forever. H Iskandar is My Rented-House Father. Where for more than 6 months I lived in. He was more than my Rented-House Father, but also teacher for me. I used to be taught by him, “Lecturing Kitab Kuning” in each time after Maghrib Prayer. He lectured me about Hadith and Fiqih ( Law in Islam). This “Kitab Kuning” lecture will be getting more intensive in Ramadlan Month. I really can not forget this fruitful memories with Him, it will always remain deep within my heart.

I can not say anything, but express my deepest condolence for his passing away and My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you H Iskandar.  I realy feel evanescence of you. Bon Voyage ! Allah blesses you in your second Life! May Allah forgives all your mistakes and May Allah give your  eternal rest and may your soul rest in peace.Amminn.

65 years, I think  it is not young anymore for a nation. However, Education Problem in my Country have not found its clue. I am thinking of  “Character and Mental Education For Future Leader of Indonesia”. Is It the answer?

As lecturer in University, I can not stop taking a part at least to think about the future of education in Indonesia. Why Education? Because, I believe “a better eduction” is the only thing can make “a better future” of this nations. Only a better education can make this nation moving from stupidity, from drop behind condition. Only a better education can cut the poverty chain.

Surely, I am not the only one thinking about education. We have ministry of education, governmental department in charge regarding this education matter. However, I think education needs everyone participation and everyone awareness. Unfortunately, many education policy in this nation is strictly determined by Government. In which, I am rarely happy with Government policy such as National Examination as the only one measurement to judge whether a student pass from school or not. I never think it is a tool to make a better education, only the one who can not see the fact, who said like that.

The fact showed national examination make a scary. The scary make everyone including students and teachers to do everything, even the worst thing, to cope with. It is public secret thoroughly in this nation, the scary of national examination trigger massive fraud, even the worst academic  fraud, in the schools. Student is cheating, Student is helping another student, even the teacher is helping the student during national examination is common fraud happens in each national examination held.

If, that’s the matter, we can conclude that Education in Indonesia only teach Dishonesty to the students. It is very bad mentality, isn’t it? Can you imagine what will this nation to be in the future? If everyone taught Dishonesty in his school.

So, what is a better education for this nation?

In my humble opinion, the education in Indonesia so far is not good news for me. Concisely, I can say that the education only make student to be mark oriented, and student is prepared to be worker. The same thing, for education system, frequently educator and government only adopted from another developed country such as Student Centered Learning, Competency-Based Learning, and whatever.  However, it still does not answer the problem, because it is lazily taken from country that is strongly different in culture, characteristic, and mentality from Indonesians.

I am dreaming a better education system that can built good mentality of student such as integrity, honesty, critical and analitical thingking, hard working, problem solving and decision making, confident, self awareness, proactive attitude, etc.  NOT ONLY student with CGPA 4.0 but apatis and opportunist. I am hoping a better education system that can make student to be future leader, future agent of change NOT future worker and follower.

It is not easy thing, but it doesn’t mean impossible. As a lecturer, I dare my self to think out the box. Dare to try something new, that is unusual things. Just for sharing, two weeks ago, I tried something new in my class. I tried a simulation what I called “Executive Meeting Role Play” instead of ordinary lecture. In this role play my students  in a group pretended  to be CEO,  CIO, CKO, HR Manager, Finance Manager, SCM Manager, CRM Manager, PR and CSR manager, Manufacturing manager held a meeting to discuss the given business problems of their imaginated Business Organization. In my humble opinion, it is very good to stimulate them to have  a good leadership skill, poblem solving, decision making, analitical and critical thingking.  At least, it is interesting method to cope with saturation giving oral presentation and lecture in front of class (What a Lazy Lecturere I was :p )

Keep Fight ! The Education In Indonesia ! It is very challenging for me, deal with education developement In this beloved country. I do hope I can take a part ( I don’t care how little it is) in it .

Finally, the time is coming up !  The time,  I decide my Sweetheart to be my Wife.  The time, I choose the lucky girl, that will be always in my side, the girl that will be firstly I see, when I open my eyes in the early morning, the girl that will be always supports and encourages me  to lead the rest of this life. It is the right time. The time, I choose a woman to be a mother of my future sons and daughters. It is not easy decision actually, but I just strongly believe GOD never makes mistake in deciding His decision.

Perhaps, you wonder Who my girl is? Intentionally, I keep it secret (the name) until that Day.  So, please come come to my wedding party :).  However, I knew some of my “close” friend know her very well. FYI, I firstly met her, at pesantren Darul Ulum Jombang (an islamic boarding school). She was my Junior, at my high school.

Finally, the long  journey finds its final destination. The long journey of my love, that is very-very complicated. I have been lough and dropped  more than one litter of my tears, because of Love. However, there is a time when love must choose its right, and I do hope She is my right love destination, I do hope She is the only my Mrs Right.

Next year, I have another dream. I can live together with my wife at Nottingham, UK, while  pursuing my Ph.D in Information Technology, School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, UK. Life together with my little happy Family.

I am very sorry, it is intentionally held not in weekend :). Because, I am married officially in Islam,  but traditionally in Javanese culture, and that day is the “best” day refers to my parent in-law that strictly hold Javanese Culture.
