Whatever happen its my own style and way……… and I like not to be others!!

Last semester, I manage to try my best to deliver my lecture fully in English. Actually,  I deeply realize that my English is NOT GOOD (to do not say BAD  : ). But, I think  there is never mistakes to try it. Beforehand, I have requested to my head department one special class in which I will try to  deliver fully in English. But, as usually my request is never be entertained by him.

Finally, I try my way, haha. I force my students to admit me with all my weaknesses, I deliver my lecture fully in English for all classes. You know I have four classes with more than 50 students in each class. Three classes for Discrete Mathematics and one class for Business Intelligence.

Discrete Mathematics: it is my first time to teach this subject, dealing with foundation mathematics for computer science such as logic, function, set, number, and graph theory. I am not expert in this subject even I have no back ground in mathematics. “But the show must go on” haha. Fortunately, this subject is for first year first semester student, so I did not problem with smarter than me student :p.

Business Intelligence: It is my first time too to teach this subject, it is the first time taught  in Information System Dept. It is a little bit hard subject combining mathematics, technology and business. But, actually it is the most interesting subject. Absolutely, since it is new course I am not expert in this subject and I have no background dealing with this subject. This course is for final year student. But, once more, whatever happen “the show must go on”.Apparently, this word “but, the show must go on” is  efficacious word for new lectures like me to keep alive ha ha..

Finally, the course is ended, and how the result is? the above-depicted figure is the result for discrete mathematics class. Not Bad, isn’t  it? Although, almost there is no students get full mark, however almost everyone pass this course. It means I did not fail deliver this course, haha… ( just want to regale my self).

The most important thing is, how is my students’ comments, have a look bellows :p

Udah baik banget idenya nyampein matkul pake bahasa inggris, tapi tolong dunk bahasa inggrisnya jangan terlalu menyalahi tata aturan yang berlaku alias grammar kan gak enak juga didengarnya, jangan marah pak kritik ini tujuannya biar sampean bisa jadi lebih baik lagi hehehe…

Pak, tolong kalau mengajar jangan terlalu banyak bahasa Inggris nya..Sebenarnya ini materi gampang..
Saya waktu SMA suka pelajaran MTK Bab ini (Peluang, Permutasi, Kombinasi, Logika Matematika, dll)..

Saya sadar yang membuat saya kurang bisa dalam MK ini adalah usaha saya dalam belajar yang memang sangat minim sekali. You always give us the different task with different method and always make us try and support harder to get the best mark with our own effort. i hope this will be better next year. Cak Shon.. makasih karena udah ngajarin kita semua.. walau kadang kita2 sering acuh saat pelajaran, tapi bukan berarti kita gak peduli sama kuliah bapak, mungkin saat itu sedang bosan aja.. mengenai bahasa pengantar menggunakan bahasa Inggris saya pikir itu ide(pelaksanaannya juga..) sangat bagus, tapi juga harus melihat fakta bahwa tidak semua mahasiswa pandai dalam berbahasa Inggris.. jadi saran saya, mungkin dilain kesempatan, ada saatnya kita berbahasa Inggris, ada saatnya berbahasa ibu sendiri.. but after all, you’re my best lecturer.. once again, thank you so much…

menurut saya, mata kuliah matematika diskrit menyenangkan untuk dipelajari jika saya lebih giat belajar, hal itu saya rasakan setelah membaca dan memahami materi ppt yang telah diberikan oleh Mr. A. Mukhlason.

discrete math really help us improving our logic. it is useful for others subject, like alpro, etc.just be patient to teach your student. actually i didn’t have any problem discrete math in english, but my friends did. thank you, sir and give me good mark, please. thank you very much

I suggest using the Indonesian language as if it teaches the English language is more difficult to understand, with tough courses like this should be using the Indonesian language course.

sebenarnya akan lebih efektif penggunaan waktu dalam melaksanakan perkuliahan..
didiskusikan dengan mahasiswa terlebih dahulu.. jadi kesimpulannya, cak son..sebelum anda memutuskan untuk melaksanakan 2 sesi.. lebih baik diberitahukan dulu kepada mahasiswa di hari-hari sebelumnya.

MK ini susah dipahami karena disampaikan dengan bahasa inggris coba dicampur bahasa inggris dan indonesia biar mudah dipelajari…

Satu masukan Pak, untuk alokasi waktu perasaan dulu saya milih kelas nya bukan di hari Jum’at, tapi kok jadi hari Jum’at ya… hikshiksss…. Sangat terasa apabila sudah berkeluarga…. (Masukan dari beberapa temen2 juga), apalagi yang domisili keluarga tidak di surabaya. Waktu kuliah kadang2 overtime.

mata kuliah matdis sebenarnya sangat menyenangkan sekali,,menarik untuk di pelajari…
awalnya saya merasa mata kuliah ini agak sulit karena bahasa pengantarnya menggunakan bahasa Inggris,,dan nilai di awal perkuliahan juga tidak memuaskn,,namun seiring perjalanan waktu,,saya mulai terbiasa dan mulai merasakan serunya belajar matdis,,=)cara penyampaiannya juga mudah dimengerti dan menarik,,tingkatkan lagi,,karena menurut saya mata kuliah ini sangat penting bagi mahasiswa bidang komputer,,=)

waktunya sering gak tepat, seringkali molor..klo bisa semester dpn lbh tepat waktu.

Matdisk oke lah,, Pke bahasa indonesia juga donk kalo bisa.. Mbulet pake inggris teruss..

pak, sebaiknya bahasanya jangan memakai bahasa inggris. Karena mata kuliah matematika ini memerlukan pemahaman lebih. Jadi, kalau murid belum mengerti dengan bahasa Indonesia, kenapa harus dipergunakan bahasa Inggris. Sebenarnya bapak kalau mengajar memakai bahasa Indonesia, anak anak lebih memahami materinya. Contoh, sewaktu RQ saya pernah dapat bagus karena bapak menyampaikan materinya menggunakan bahasa Indonesia. Gitu lho pak. kalau tetep pake bahasa Inggris, sebaiknya bilingual saja. Matematika Diskrit itu sebenarnya menyenangkan dan kalau materinya di mengerti baik-baik sebenarnya cukup mudah, cuman sayangnya karena menggunakan bahasa inggris dan kadang mood tidak mendukung, mata kuliahnya jadi sedikit kurang diperhatikan . Kalau diminta memberikan saran, jujur, saya sangat senang jika dalam kuliah diberikan games, saya jadi tertarik untuk mengikuti. Komentar: Matematika diskrit merupakan fondasi programming. Penting sekali. Kritik & saran: 1.penyampaian materi datar, kurang dinamis. Selain itu meskipun pengantarnya dalam bahasa inggris, sebenarnya tidak perlu FULL ENGLISH. Pada moment2 menerangkan solusi pengerjaan soal misalnya, bahasa Indonesia saja supaya cepat dimengerti. 2.Assignment nya itu lho.. aduh.. jeda-nya terlalu cepat. Baru ada assignment 1, sudah keluar lagi assignment 2. Kuliah = ngejar deadline tugas , atau kuliah = mencari ilmu ??? Rasanya kok hidup ini hanya untuk ngerjain tugas.Belajar mandirinya kapan? Itu yang menyebabkan anak2 banyak yg mbacem.. lha wong deadlinenya mendesak sekali.

matdis sangat menyenangkan, untuk bahasa inggrisnya tetap dipertahankan aja …
pelajarannya juga berguna untuk mata kuliah lain..
jadi, matdis sangat bagus untuk dipelajari…

bahasa inggrisnya gak usah terlalu banyak, jadi ngajarinnya bilingual, indonesia-english gitu aja.. trus waktunya kadang-kadang juga molor waktu kuliah dan sering banget gak tepat waktu.. semoga, lain kali tepat waktu mulainya ataupun berakhirnya..

Sir, I’m so sorry to say this, but the way you speak English, is really bad……
but, I do appreciate it. Not all people is capable of speaking English fluently. But it takes sometimes to understand what you say, that’s why sometimes I often get sleepy in the class (really sorry for that Sir).
keep up the good work, and please keep improving your pronounciation….. anyway, everything else is good.  oh, please don’t be so meany to us by giving so many assignment….

Mari kita dukung terus, lanjutkan ! ^-^Sebenarnya MK ini menarik, hanya saja materi tidak seimbang dengan waktu yang tersedia, sehingga sering penyampaiannya terkesan ngebut, dan banyak detil-detil yang terlewatkan. Kalo memang penting, kenapa gak tambah sks nya?MK ini butuh banyak latihan. Mentoring mestinya ada jadwal tersendiri yang tidak tabrakan dengan kuliah lain, jadi kita-kita bisa ikutan. Kalo perlu jadi jam MK tersendiri.English okelah, not bad. Tapi di dobel Indonesia masih perlu kaya’nya. Seperti pertemuan belakangan ini, terasa lebih bisa diterima. Maju terus, ukuran kebaikan tidak diukur dari banyaknya orang yang suka, tapi kemanfaatannya.

Pak, menurut saya bapak dosen paling niat di kampus SI ini.. ^^ tetep perjuangkan semangatnya ya pak!. Dulu saya sempet kecewa dengan SI ITS, tapi waktu ada bapak ngajar, jadi semangat lagi pak. Bapak dosen yang memanfaatkan fasilitas e-learning dengan sepenuhnya. Ngajarnya juga udah enak pak, lucu, hehe, gak ngantuk. Tapi ada sedikit usulan pak, sewaktu bapak merevisi keterangan (bukan materi, seperti contoh kecilnya jadwal FP, atau tidak adanya kelas di hari yang bersangkutan, klo bisa diadakan seperti pemberitahuan seperti klo ada materi baru yang di upload, jadi klo ada pemberitahuan yang di revisi atau diupdate bisa langsung tahu pak).
Untuk kuliah dengan bahasa inggris saya setuju karena bahasa inggris sekarang dimana-mana kudu iso, apalagi di kerjaan. Lagian klo menunggu bisa inggris dulu baru dipakai metode ini saya rasa gak bakal bisa dulu karena males-males, kayak saya, hehe. Jadi biar paling tidak bisa inggris-inggris dikit, ya dipake aja metode mengajarnya bapak.
Saran saya, sewaktu UTS, UAS masih banyak yang nyontek pak. Mohon ditegasi. Terus masih banyak yang rame pak waktu UTS dan UAS, jadi ga konsen. Oya pak, sebaiknya mata kuliah ini sebelum Alpro 1, jadi paling tidak bisa dikit-dikit logikanya dulu, baru terjun ke dunia Pemrograman. Klo digabung saya bingung pak, belum seberapa mantep logikanya udah disuruh mrogram ini itu.

i’m very intrested with this MK,because MATDIS the only one of MK in college delivered with english so we can imrove a grammar or vocab of english in this MK but i think matdis is so HARD for me ,
and the time to study in college its too long, i think 3 times we study at 7oclock until 11, oo is so bored for college student, oke thats all,thx the last i think MATDIS is the best course in college

Matdis itu mata kuliah yang menarik sebenarnya, walaupun memang kadang kelihatan agak njelimet. Ya, mungkin karena saya yang kurang jam belajarnya. Tapi emang bener kalo ditekuni sebenarnya enak jg.Trus, mengenai pnyampaian materi dalam bahasa inggris, sebenarnya bagus tapi yang paling penting adalah pemahaman materi yang didapatkan mahasiswa. Jadi, menurut saya jangan terlalu memaksakan untuk menyampaikan materi dalam bahasa Inggris tapi yg terpenting adalah bagaimana mahasiswa bisa menangkap materi yang disampaikan. efektivitas waktu sepertinya kurang diperhatikan (baca : sering datang terlambat . trus, kalo bisa selama kuliah dosen jangan hanya menyampaikan materi saja, tetapi juga lebih sering memberikan latihan (dari text book yang ada) yang langsung dibahas di kelas. Jadi, ada partisipasi lebih aktif dari mahasiswa.Trus, buat ke depannya kalo bisa jumlah mahasiswa dalam satu kelas bisa dibatasi maksimal mungkn sekitar 40 orang coz yang kemarin kayaknya terlalu banyak dan ini mengakibatkan suasana belajar yang kurang kondusif.mungkin sekian saja dari saya, mohon maaf kalo terlalu panjang. mohon maaf juga apabila selama mengikuti perkuliahan terdapat tindakan atau ucapan yang kurang berkenan. terima kasih….

mata kuliah yang sangat bermanfaat sebenarnyatapi sayangnya karena mata kuliah ini menggunakan pengantar bahasa inggris  jadi maless bgt yang mw mendalami lebih dalam… hhehehe…
tapi penyampaian materinya sangat kerrrrrenn..ada simulasinya,jadi mata kuliah ini gak bikin bossen walaupun pake bahasa inggris jadi lebih menarik,lucu juga pas waktu dikasi tugas tentang S.N.A ,
materi kuliah ini sangat bermanfaat,aq jadi ngerti tentang graph,kriptografi,agna,dll

menurut saya cara penyampain MK sebaiknya jangan menggunakan b.ing terlebih dahulu karena ada sebagain mahasiswa yang belum terlalu lancar berbahasa inggris.. sehingga mereka terkadang malas untuk mendengarkan… karena tidak mengerti dengan bahasanya.. So far, saya salut dengan pak shon yang selalu rajin memberikan tugas lewat elearning… like this! ^.^

Penyampaian dalam bahasa inggris bagus, hanya terkadang dalam penyampaian materi, apabila ada materi yang ditulis pada papan tulis, (mohon maaf) tulisan bapak terlalu kecil,
Ini menyulitkan mahasiswa yang tidak mendapatkan tempat duduk di depan… Oya pak, saya mau bertanya, ini kuesioner atau kuis?kok ada nilainya?karena kalau ada nilainya, tentu nilai yang didapat akan berbeda dengan hasil kuesioner, karena jawaban kuesioner pasti sangat subjektif. Terima kasih

sebenarnya Mk ini tidak terlalu susah, tetapi karena hampir semua pengantar(buku, penjelasan)nya menggunakan Bahasa Inggris jadi kelihatan susah. Bahasa Inggris memang bermanfaat buat kita, tetapi alangkah baiknya Mk ini memakai Bahasa Indonesia saja supaya lebih bisa di mengerti.

Hanya Saran. Saya kesulitan untuk mengikuti MK ini jika hanya 1 kali materi - 1 kali pertemuan. Terkadang saya kurang mudeng, entah karena MK ini atau sistem pengajaran dosen. Saya juga kurang bisa menangkap maksud dari buku Rosen (buku pegangan dosen) sehingga kadang-kadang saya bingung dalam mengerjakan assignment.

Satu hal yang ikut menyumbang kesan kurangnya waktu pembelajaran shg terburu-buru adalah kedisiplinan yang kurang. Pelajaran terlambat dimulai tetapi selesainya tepat waktu.
Mentolerir keterlambatan adalah wajar jika tidak terlalu lama atau karena ada halangan penting. Tetapi jika sampe 30-45 menit, alangkah kasihannya dosen dan siswa yang datang tepat waktu, harus menunggu atau terganggu siswa yang terlambat lama. kenapa bisa terjadi? karena ada pembiaran dan pemakluman yang terlalu luas. Jika siswa telat, dosen menunggu mereka datang, ini membuat siswa tidak tergerak untuk datang lebih awal.Membatasi terlambat maksimal 15 menit, lebih dari itu siswa ditinggal, diberi sanksi atau tidak diijinkan masuk, itu adalah hal biasa yang diterapkan beberapa dosen. Kejam? Mungkin kesan awal begitu, tapi selanjutnya insya Alloh lebih baik dan jadi kebiasaan.

MK ini menarik sekali sebenarnya, tapi, jujur, saya belum menguasai mendalam bahasa inggris.

Ass…saya sebenarnya kurang menguasai materi logika sejak diSMA dulu… tapi ternyata di MK ini muncul lagi..hehe tapi Alhamdulilah saya sudah bisa menguasainya sedikit demi sedikit, karena Mk ini sangat penting dalam pemrograman, saya berusaha untuk bisa terus belajar dan menguasai materi MK ini.

Alhamdulillah.. sangat menantang Pak..
terutama Practical Work-nya, Video-video dan studi kasus saat kuliah cukup bagus untuk membantu kami mengetahui ‘why we should learn this’, sehingga bisa cukup termotivasi, Writing Assignment-nya sangat bagus buat melatih kemampuan menulis ilmiah, dalam bahasa Inggris jg, tapi mungkin waktu pengerjaan-nya terlalu singkat,
mungkin lebih baik jika diberikan topik pilihan di tengah semester,
dan di-lakukan semacam review n presentasi atas progress pengerjaan-nya di beberapa pertemuan,
* untuk membiasakan mahasiswa agar tidak menunda-nunda pengerjaan tugas,
* dan juga untuk meratakan beban pengerjaan tugas, soalnya setiap mata kuliah umumnya punya FP atau tugas besar,Tentang kuis pre-test saya merasa cukup efektif untuk “memaksa” saya belajar, hehe..Dan mungkin bisa disampaikan kritik ke Pak  ttg slide presentasi beliau..
menurut saya kurang komunikatif.. slide dan isi dalam slide terasa terlalu banyak.. seperti “memindahkan isi buku ke slide”,, hehe..Mudah-mudahan bermanfaat Pak..

perhaps… he is the most inspiring man in my life!

this year, 2009 is ended by very deep condolescene for me.  The one who many times have inspired me how I think about life, how i understand Islam as my religion, that day: 30th December 2009 he passed away.  Selamat Jalan Gus Dur. Selamat jalan the real president, Selamat jalan the real nation-wide teacher of Indonesia. Allah always blesses you.

When you were a student, have you ever cheated in doing your assignment? Haha.. silly question. I knew plagiarism in doing assignment is not special case and very commonly happen between students in my college. But, I knew very well that it is very bad habit and violate the academic integrity in which honesty is highly honorable.

That’s why when right now I am lecturer, I frequently warn my students with academic integrity policy. I strictly prohibit any kinds of plagiarism in my college, especially in my course. However, I do not know why, there are still many students neglect my warning. I always motivate and encourage my students to try their very best to figure out all their homework assignments by their self, however there are only very little student obey it. Actually, I do not prohibit, even encourage them to discuss with others in figuring out their homework assignment, But No “Copy Paste” is allowed. However, there are still a lot of student doing this “Copy Paste”. No more then 30% of students doing their homework assignment by their self.

Finally, I force a new rule for any body who just copy from their friend answer, I will give him/her ZERO grade. But, this new rule is not effectively running as well. My students gets better by the time :D. You know what? They do not solely  copy from one student any more, but they get answer from some students and combine the answer to be their owns. Thus, it is not easy for me to identify which student who actually copy from others. Finally, once a time, when I tought Graph Theory in my Discete Mathematic Class. I force my student to be honest. I just warn them by saying ” God is seeing you”.  I asked them to explain me How they figured out their homework. Whether they just copy from other friends, figure it by their self, or by discussing with others. I asked them to explain me by depicting in graph, and the above-presented figure is the result.

The time went by swift.

It is the end of this year and I am still here facing tomorrow that I am not sure what will happen.

Day by day lately make me blur never knows what actually I am looking for in this Life.

Sometime I feel I have misled to tired directionless days.

I need a time to contemplate the rest of my Life.

Who will guide me, but the only one you oh my God.

“Giving something without hoping anything”.

Hem…this words  sound nice, but I think it is not easy thing to do. Moreover, in this nowadays materialistic life style. When everything is measured by money. Even, your value is measured by how much money in your hand? Barely, there is something more valuable than money.

Most people including me do something for someone else for hoping get something back from him/her, and unfortunately not everyone get something back for whom they have done. You give a stick to blind man, but He use the stick to cane you. I am very sure, it will make you sad and angry. See on other case, our parent, our mother especially, taking care of us starting from beginning of our life until now. But, what have we done for our parent? However, our mother never hope anything but the goodness of us. That’s perhaps what a sincerity means.

In each single of our time, we will never find a true happiness till there is a sincerity in the bottom of our heart. The more hopes, the more disaffection. If we hope more to our Boss, then we will have more chances to be disappointed by our Boss :D.  The ultimate hope is only Allah. We will never disappoint when we set our destination up only to Allah. Do not be sad, when our kindness, our contributions, our merits are ignored, are forgotten by the others.  Even, appreciations, honors please do not be our goal to do something. Do not be sad, when our hard work, our immolation of times, money, and efforts do not give us a result that make us happy. Trust to Allah. He never sleeps. He will never forget you and He will pay you !

When we have sincerity in the bottom of our heart, the less disapointment at hand, the more happiness at hand. Let’s make a sincerity the spirit of our Life. Let Allah be our final and ultimate  destination.

Have you got problem in your work place? I am sure everyone got it.  But, now I got problem with my Boss. Not serious problem actually, but it really makes me unhappy, makes me confuse, makes me less motivated. So far, I am very happy with my Boss. He is so visionary one, having very good and strong  strategical and managerial  decision making. But, lately, I am barely happy with him.

The root of the problem is all about his ambivalent decision. One time he said  A, in another time he said -A. In one time I know he is a well-planned decision maker, but in another time he is accidental decision maker. For me, it is harder than following Gus Dur thought. Ha ha…….

Here I am telling you what is the matter.

One day, he said to me regarding his vision to make this department to be internationally recognized. He planned this department of  this university will be recognized by south east Asian countries by 2014. To get there, He also placed the ability of students  in mastering international languages (especially English) in the second place of student profile competency better than technical competency in information system. But, when I managed to deliver my lecture in English and when my student starting to enjoy my English class, He managed to stop my English Class. He said it is not the time yet to deliver my lecture in English. Frequently, He warn me to stop my English Class. But, in not long other days, in special moment He awarded me as the best and most favorite  lecturer at this department.

One day, He encouraged me to have international reputation by having international publication. He promised will deliver me all around the world if I can bring this department name. The department will pay me for any international conferences. He convinced me by showing me more than enough unused money in this department. But, when my paper was accepted in IEEE conference, and the payment deadline was approaching. When I was asking whether the department will pay me, He said nothing. He gave me no comments.

One day, I was pointed to be one of organizing committee for national conference held in our department. He warn us to be not money-oriented conference, means that our main purpose is not to gain profit by this conference. But, for academic purpose only. He said, this conference will be fully funded by department and the income from the conference will be saved for enduring fund for this department not to cover the conference expense. Even, happily he will provide 6 blackberries for 3 best oral presenters and 3 poster presenter. But, when the conference is approaching he manage to make the conference expense as minimum as possible. He said we were unsuccessfully gained enough money from conference participants.

I think that’s all make me really confuse. But, I am afraid it is only all about my stupidity to understand well his decision.But, to be honest, it make me less being motivated. It remember me to someone. She is my senior in my department. At the beginning I was here. She did hope me to keep being motivated. She said while reminding me:  it is not easy to keep being motivated here. Now, I just understand what she means.

Hopefully, Tomorrow I will be still  having hopes , because the audacity of hope is the only thing make mo not surrender here !

Traveling oh Traveling. Hemm… sounds nice and great. I have a passion, one day I can travel all around the worlds. So far, I have only visited three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Not bad, haha…. because many of my friends never traveling out this country :D.

Right now, I am half-dreaming. In the end of this year I can travel to Abu Dhabi, a capital city of Uni  Arab Emirat. One of the most prosperous oil exporter country in middle east countries. Why half-dreaming? because I have a great chance to travel to this city , Insya Allah hopefully.

Although, It has been a long time I have never writing any sciencitific paper, but actually  I have one unpublished paper. I have made this paper several months ago, and actually have been accepted in IEEE International Conference. But, I drawn my paper back because of payment problem. My payment is rejected by American Banks.

Another chance come to me again now, my paper is accepted in another IEEE International Conference namely: 6th International Conference on Innovation in Information Technology. The conference will be held on Al Ain UAE December 15-17 2009.  In this conference, insya Allah I will present my paper entitked : SWA-KMDLS: Enhanced e-Learning Management System Using Semantic Web and Knowledge Management Technology. I must be confident presenting this paper in the conference, because I get very good review from my paper reviewers. One of my paper reviewer said that my paper is Excellent work and outstanding technical content. I am happy with this matter.

But, unfortunately I am not sure yet whether my department will pay this conference for me. Pay for transportation  and accomodation during the conference. Hopefully, my department will. So, I can travel to UAE free, got any lnowledge from that prestigious conference.

“Too Many things want to do in Too limited time”.  Yes, definitely that is perfectly describing how I am right now lately. My desk in my office is fulled with work sheet. In my computer and laptop desktop as well, too many things overwhelmed me there.

Before joining Information System Department, faculty of Information Technology ITS as lecturer, one of things drive me to choose this profession is by being a lecturer, I will have spare times for out of work activities. I was imagining besides delivering lecture to my students, I can actively join another social and  religious organizations and activities. Dedicating my times not only in my work place, but also contributing in other places.

But, Imagination not always comes True. haha….. My Imagination is absolutely false. Standing here,  I am overwhelmed with many many works. Not only dealing with academic and lecturing activities. Even, I can not accomplish all my  academic activities.  Delivering lecture without any preparation is one of bad habit example here. And Writing is the worst case example. Here, I have never time for writing many ideas in my heads. Thus, regrettably many ideas in my head flight away by the time goes away, never have a chance to keep them in written manuscript.

Sometime, I thinks I should learn how to be effective people. Hemm… Good Idea, but I have never a great t ime s to learn it. In each weekend I have to got to go out this city, traveling in another city for my another activities.

So, when I  enjoy my Life? haha… fortunately, I am happy with everything I have done and doing. Although my life looks so hard but, I am happy. Dealing with anything that I love much. May tomorrow always gets better and better.

Well, Whatever happens, there should be a reason. Its My Life. And I love my Life as it is.

On Sunday, September 20th 2009. All muslims all around the world celebrate the “Idul Fitri”  day ( year 1430 Hijri). It is very happy day for all muslim all around the world after fully one month fasting. In the early morning on that day , all muslims comin to mosque for praying, worshiping the Allah almighty. ” Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar , walillahilhamdu “  Allah, the only God almighty; Allah, the only God almighty, and every approbation only for Him.

After praying for “sholat hari raya” , there is different way in different place on How muslims celebrate this great day.  In Indonesia, the largest muslim country in the world, this Idul Fitri day is the most celebrated day. Indonesians  enjoy their holidays for one week to celebrate this Idul Fitri. It is one week national holidays in Indonesia. I bet, it is comparebale with new year celebration in China.

During this Idul Fitri days, all muslims in Indonesia looking for forgiveness to one another. They visiting their families, their relatives, their friends to express their humblest apologize. People in urban coming back to their rural where they come from.  On those days, there will be crowded in rurals, and there will be quiet in urbans. This coming home town tradition popularly called as “Mudik”. There will be terrible congestion from cities to villages on those days.

In celebrating Idul fitri days, there is special food cooked only in Idul Fitri days. That special food is what called “ketupat”.  Actually, it is only another rice cooked in coconut leafs package. There is special taste in this kind of rice compared with ordinary cooked rice. Usully it is eaten together with “Opor Ayam”. Chicken cooked in coconut milk. You want to taste it? Just come in my beutiful Indonesia. I am very sure you will be joyful on those days!

… My English is not so Good. but I manage to try my best to speak in English….. it is just a little step for my University, ITS, to be world class University.

New semester (Gasal 2009)  just starting, and it is my second semester, being a lecturer at Information System Department, Faculty of Information Technology ITS. I am teaching two subjects : Discrete Math ( for 1st year 1st semester student) and Business Intelligence (for final year students). The things that make difference for this semester is I deliver my lecture fully in English. Although,  no one doing so before in my department.

I realize  that my English is not so good, but I manage to try my best to speak in English. I also very sure some of my students sneering on What I have done. But, I believe everything will be just fine. Let the time go and show the truth. Regarding my English that is not so good, I think it is so natural, that everything supposed to be hard at beginning, but by the time swift, it will be just fine. I believe that  my audacity to speak in English, will encourage me to improve my English to be getting and better, and I think the best way to be getting better and better is by practicing it.

Regarding my students, I think it is just about habits. They are not accustomed to use English yet. But, I believe by the time swift, everything will be just fine and they will enjoy it. I manage to communicate with them either in class or out class in English.    Sending short message and email as well.

Why English? I do not mean I am less in feeling nationality. But in today’s world, everyone should deal with everyone globally. and English is the key to be able to deal with globally all around the world.  Although English has been tought  to the students since their elementary school, but I am very sure most of them did not mastering English as medium of communication. So, it is the time they practice it. Hopefully, it is beautiful beginning for ITS to be world class University.
